This Morning I wake up at something like 10:00 am. We are in summer here in France and we are in holydays too. The faculty starts again in 2nd mid of september.

Ok it’s 11:04 am. I got hundreds of spams on one of my blog posts. I try to see how JohnChow gets rid of his spams. I open his ebook and read it, searching for the solution. Not really expanded on the question. OK. Let it go.
I already know that the akismet pre-installed wordpress plugin works. First, I go and grab my API Key by login into wordpress.com (free hosted account). I Got it.
Now I mark all the spam comments as “SPAM”
I’ve received 524+ spam comments on 1 blog post. 524 For 1 Blog Post !!! Fortunately, they are pending for moderation. They all look like this: “good site, nice work”. 4 spam words, posted by hundreds of different websites of all kinds. Even big Brand names. (!!??).
Until now, akismet did not stop them and did not mark them automatically as SPAM because I’ve been lazy. As you read above, it’s only today that I have taken the API key to make Akismet work properly and stop spams directly. I’ve been lazy, I’ve been punished. Point. A good lesson. If you know that something must be done, do it, or face the consequences. Fortunately, it has not been a disaster for me. OUF!

So I’m punished. I click the spam comments one by one, mark them as spam. After the 200th click, my finger is tired. I scroll the page down to see what’s remaining.
Surprise! At the bottom of the page, there is a link that allows to “select all” directly and mark everything as SPAM in one click. Grrr! After 200 clicks, I’m happy to have discovered that link. I suppose I deserved the punishment.

AND BAM! One click, and all SPAM comments are deleted. YES!!! It’s 11:33 am. Operation duration: 29 minutes.

Oh! I still have comments that have passed through the filter. I delete them all, but this time, legit comments are among them, so first I select all, then uncheck the legits that are less numerous. That’s quicker that way. It is 11:40 am.

Results:

• I configured akismet properly, entered my API key
• I’ve deleted all previous 524+ SPAM comments
• Future SPAM Comments will be directly Flagged by Akismet
• Now I know How To Get Rid Of ugly SPAM comments
